Possible Royal Austrian Steamer Trunk?
« on: January 21, 2011, 01:30:38 am »
Hi Everyone,

I was given this antique austrian steamer by my grandmother. I've tried to research it with no success. I wish I spoke german..... I think it has the seal of the crown on it though.....

Any help on the value, history, and where I could sell this would be great.

thanks,

Eric

You have, I believe the manufacturer's details there, and the slogan is also quite interesting.

AS to value, it might depend upon who it belonged to.

Over here these don't fetch as much as they did 20 years ago, but they have found a new lease of life either as toy boxes or coffee tables, so the round topped ones are not so popular.

With an interesting provenance it could be worth who knows? It looks to me to be first quarter of the 20th c, only based upon others I've seen, but I could be way out. Over here (and there are differences than across the pond) it might fetch $60 - $80.
